Coco Noir by Chanel was launched in 2012. Perfumers Jacques Polge and Christopher Sheldrake went back in time for their inspiration. According to Polge, a fragrance can only come into existence because other fragrances preceded it. Therefore, Coco and Coco Mademoiselle were closely examined. Their image was combined with Gabrielle 'Coco' Bonheur's fondness for black and Venetian Baroque. The final ingredient was a touch of the present day. Voila, Coco Noir was born. The citrusy top notes consist of bergamot, orange, and grapefruit. In the heart, floral notes of geranium, narcissus, rose, and jasmine are combined with peach. Woody notes predominate in the base: clove, benzoin, olibanum, white musk, vanilla, sandalwood, tonka bean, and patchouli.
