Chanel No. 19 was launched in 1970. The fragrance is dedicated to Gabrielle Chanel's birthday: August 19. Against the advice of her entourage, she asked Henri Robert to compose a fragrance. The perfumer developed a scent with a strong and pronounced character.

In the top, green notes combine with citrusy bergamot and neroli (orange blossom). The middle is a sultry bouquet of ylang-ylang, lily of the valley, rose, narcissus, and iris. Leather gives the predominantly woody base a unique touch.
