Chanel No.5 Parfum was launched in 1921. The Pure Parfum closely resembles the Eau de Parfum variant, but there are a few minor differences to be discovered in the composition. The nose behind this fragrance is Ernest Beaux. It is said to be the first fragrance to emphasize the eccentric notes of aldehydes.

These appear primarily in the top notes and are combined with ylang-ylang, bergamot, orange blossom, and lemon. The heart is a floral blend of iris, jasmine, rose, orris root, and lily of the valley. Animal notes of civet stand out in the base. Musk, vanilla, and amber blend with woody notes.
